- There will be legal fireworks!
Let me comment briefly on what is happening in Kano. Unfortunately, those expected to demonstrate wisdom and maturity are flexing political muscles and trying to ignite fire that may burn them. It is sad!
*You don’t depose a prominent Emir that is popular.
*SLS was not the chioce of Kingmakers in 2014 hence riots that made him to live in Government House with Kwankwaso.
*** Which offence will you charge Bayero for to justify his deposition?
**** A Governor cannot install an Emir without the input of the Traditional Kingmakers. Bayero was Kingmakers choice in 2014 so his enthronement was easy. Did anyone protest when Sanusi was deposed? Everyone in Kano knew that it was Kwankwaso that made him Emir and NOT the Kingmakers. He was not even second choice on the list.
***** The so called ‘new’ Emirates “created ” are not new. Historically they were old *traditonal* Emirates with their own Emirs before they were subjugated to play second fiddle to Emir of Kano. Those Emirates in 2019 under Guanduje were ‘restored’ to their pride of place using historical records.
Why should an Emir come to Kano to pay homage during Sallah when his people should pay homage to him in his own Emirate? Should Emir of Kano mean “Emir of Kano State” ? That is what Kwankwaso wants to re-entrench.
*****Legally, you can’t depose a person *without* telling people his offence. He must be charged like Sanusi was charged and allowed to defend those charges. When he fails you then depose him ,that is Human Rights Law. That was the legal process followed to remove Sanusi.
Anything outside that procedure is *mala fide*!
A Governor cannot ochestrate deposition using servile Lawmakers to abrogate existing laws , make a new one,and then apply the law retroactively against a person that did nothing wrong! The new law did not fault the law under which Bayero was enthroned, does it.? You cannot punish Bayero because of politics. No way! *Legal fireworks, welcome !*😁
If I were SLS based on background info.about his ascension and deposition, I won’t show any interest in reinstatement but then *obsession* and logical reasoning don’t go together. *Where is emotional intelligence ?
Why should I, for example, allow a politician to cause ‘war of attrition’ within my royal family, between two blood brothers and NOT a different Ruling House? Why???
The Royal Stool will now become a musical chair , so that if in 2027 APC produces Kano State Governor, Sanusi will be deposed again based on charges of malfeasance still on ground but dropped based on appeals after his deposition. I remember vividly that advert on Newspapers for Sanusi to pick where he wanted to continue with his Court trial/ defence–Lagos or Kano after his deposition. Appeals made Guanduje to soft pedal . Sanusi was quiet for months then, but see what is playing out now.
The Emir of Muri in Taraba and recently Zauzau( Kaduna ) forced on the people by ElRufai have been ostracised by Northern Emirs saying that Kingmakers had no input before their enthronment.
This Kano saga will go beyond Kano but let us pray against bloodshed .
